The Governing Body

At Prudhoe West, we value the role of the Governing Body very highly, and appreciate the commitment our Governors give to the school. The role of the Governing Body is to help us provide the best possible education for our pupils. This is done by the Governors carrying out the following:

• thinking and working strategically to help the staff raise standards
• monitoring and evaluating progress towards our priorities and targets
• supporting the Headteacher and staff as well as challenging their expectations
• accounting to all stakeholders for the school’ s performance and for the decisions they make,   such as the wider school community, Local Authority, Ofsted
• act as a ‘critical friend’ by providing the Headteacher with support and offer advice and information but also to provide some challenge. The Governing Body is there to monitor and evaluate the school’s effectiveness and our Governors therefore are prepared to ask challenging questions
• to ensure accountability by receiving from the Headteacher and staff reports on the school’s performance
